Sydney, Australia September 20, 2014 Despite an unusual rainy September morning, the IAAF Silver Label Road Race saw new records set in both men's and women's divisions. On the men's side, a group of six stayed together late into the race, before Gebo Gameda of Ethiopia was able to surge away to a 2:11:18 course record win. In second was Seboka Dibaba, also of Ethiopia in 2:11:48, which was also under the old course record, while Kenyan Benjamin Kiptoo took third in 2:12:08 and Japanese Tsuyoshi Ugachi was fourth in 2:12:18, while Posso Sports' Abdellah Taghrafet cramped up in the final 10K but held on for fifth in 2:16:56. Ethiopian Beruktait Eshetu repeated her course record vitory of last year, this time going under 2:30 with her 2:29:42 winning time. I second was Kenyan Jane Kiptoo in 2:32:08 from Japan's Yuka Yano 2:33:18, with Ethiopian Zemzem Ahmed fourth and Japanese Yumi Sato fifth. Posso Sports Karolina Jarzynska of Poland, one of the pre-race favorites, suffered from stomach problems and had to withdraw.
