With typically deep men's and women's elite races, both races were close and fast. Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya continued his impressive streak of major marathon wins, powering away from countryman and former WR holder Wilson Kipsang in the final kilometer to win in 2:04:42. The women's race went to Tigist Tufa of Ethiopia in a 2:23:22 upset of the more favored Kenyan elites.
Posso Sports Portuguese athlete Ana Dulce Felix continued her good form this year with a personal best in 8th place, 2:25:15. And not far behind was Moroccan athlete Rkia El Moukim. Rkia, co-managed by Posso Sports and Hicham El Mohtadi, improved her personal best to 2:26:33.
