Consistently underrated by the press and his opponents, Luiz Antonio championship record included the Bronze Medal at the 1995 IAAF World Championships Marathon, and a respectable fifth place in the same event two years later. In between he was tenth in the Atlanta Olympic Marathon.
Away from championship events, he was twice Chicago Marathon champion and once Fukuoka Marathon champion, and third place in Boston Marathon.
Luis Antonio still runs for health, and is active coaching young talent in Brazil.
